Longlegs
An almost great horror movie
When you think of horror thrillers, what comes to mind?
I don't get the whole thriller part of "horror thriller." can't we just call it a horror movie? I digress.
Let me tell you some of the greats and probably inspirations for Longlegs.
- Silence of the Lambs (1991)
- Se7en (1995)
- Zodiac (2007)
As I write this and do more research, I have discovered that the movie's inspirations came from Don't Look Now (1973) and The Long Goodbye (1973). Oz Perkins, the writer-director, has stated that the legendary Alfred Hitchcock was also a huge inspiration. This makes perfect sense after realizing he is Anthony Perkins's son, who played the mama's boy Norman Bates in Psycho (1960), directed by Hitchcock.

Okay, the beginning of the film was creepy. It sets the mood for what's about to come. The one thing Longlegs does well is building an atmosphere of dread and suspense.
